Section 87 of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872

When books, charts or maps are produced before the court to take judicial notice of it, the presumption is in the discretion of the court. Under section 87 the court may presume that such book, map or chart was written or prepared by the person whose name is shown as that of author and was published at the place where it says that it was published. But the court may not presume it to be accurate. It may or may not make any presumption as to its accuracy, authenticity and contents. The presumption is totally rebuttable.
